My Story

Why I Am Running For Los Alamos School Board

Hi Los Alamos! I wanted to take a few moments to introduce myself.

My name is Stephanie Galvez, and I’ve proudly called Los Alamos County home for over 40 years. As both a graduate of Los Alamos Public Schools and a parent to three children who also attended, I deeply value the role education plays in shaping lives and communities.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management, as well as a Master’s degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Human Resource Management. For the past 27 years, I’ve had the privilege of working at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), where I’ve grown both professionally and personally

Outside of work, you’ll often find me running along the beautiful trails that wind through our county. I’ve also enjoyed volunteering—whether coaching youth ice hockey or supporting local gymnastics programs.

I believe strongly in the mission and values of Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS). I’ve witnessed firsthand the positive impact our schools have on students, staff, and the broader community. Now, I feel it’s my turn to give back to the community that has always supported me.

I fully support the School Board’s Strategic Plan and Goals, which align closely with my own values:

  1. Academic Excellence: Our schools have a long-standing tradition of excellence, and I’m committed to helping preserve and strengthen that legacy.
  2. Social-Emotional Wellbeing: Every child learns differently and deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued in the classroom. I’m proud that LAPS prioritizes the tools and support systems needed to meet both student and educator needs.
  3. Civic Responsibility: As a community, it’s our responsibility to help children grow into their best selves. That starts with creating safe, inclusive learning environments where every student feels empowered.

I believe it takes a united community to help our children thrive. My decision to run for School Board is rooted in that belief—to support our educators with the resources they need, to advocate for our students, and to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed.

I’m committed to doing what’s best for our educators, our children, and our community—because every child matters!

Please consider voting for me. I truly care about this wonderful community and want to make a difference.  Thank you!
